Pellicer: We have to play with commitment, heart and head

The Malaguista coach held the pre-match press conference ahead of the clash with Atlético de Madrid 'B', corresponding to matchday 2. “It's up to us to connect with the people, I'm instilling that in the lads,” he commented.

Sergio Pellicer appeared before the media this Friday afternoon in the 'Juan Cortés' press room at La Rosaleda before the match against Atlético de Madrid 'B' on Saturday.

Firstly, the Blue and White coach spoke about the visiting team: “They are a reserve team with the DNA of the first team, with young, quality players. They were possibly the best team in terms of attacking spaces on the first matchday. Young players with enthusiasm at a competitive level.”

“We’re going to find a different context. We have to defend in wider spaces, finish plays, be more precise and be calmer in the final third. We’re focusing on improving the countless situations we have in mind. We must be forceful in our area and that of the rival, where the details are decided. It will require us to be very good with the ball and be active after a loss, as they were possibly the best team in terms of attacking spaces on the first matchday,” said the coach.

Pellicer talked about his intention for the team to “look at the rival goal,” he wants “for the match to be electrifying and for this to be seen. Whether we are ahead, looking for the second goal, or if we’re losing, we need to create an atmosphere to score two goals in one minute. It's up to us to connect with the people, I'm instilling that in the lads. It’s a mental process, not everyone is fit to wear this shirt,” he said.

The Malaguista mister hopes that the daily work will reap rewards: “We have a lot of young people, they look for performance and results. We have to help the young ones, they’re incredibly enthusiastic. The demand is high, but they have to have their time. On a physical, technical and tactical level we have to go further, but above all on a mental level. Self-esteem comes from victory. It’s very important to reinforce our values, those we’re worked on. We have to play with commitment, heart and head; that’s the key,” he concluded.
