Pellicer: “Nobody is going to give up”

The Blue and White manager, who tonight returned to La Rosaleda, held a press conference following #MálagaRealOviedo: “We lost a unique moment to change the mindset and we have to find that victory through hard work,” he stated.

Sergio Pellicer, Málaga CF coach, appeared in the 'Juan Cortés' Press Room after the match against Real Oviedo at La Rosaleda. He started out by referring to Burgos’ red card. “I’ve haven’t spoken to him. It’s time to get things in order. This is a day of having little to say and a lot to do. It’s a Friday night, we had 17,000 fans here in the situation we’re in. It’s an organised team outside but disorganised on the inside. This isn’t going to happen again,” he explained.

The situation is complex, as the coach describes: “There’s a tense atmosphere and there’s every reason to be for the fans. They’ve had a really tough time. It was a fairly even match, even though it didn’t go our way. We have to be prepared to concede a goal, it's been a long time since we've turned a match around. We have to be resistant. We knew this match would be like this, but we cannot lose our fighters. We changed the system, using more heart than head. We didn’t show that we could score two goals in a minute. We’ve got a great deal to work on.”

The defeat is painful, but it cannot undermine the confidence within the dressing room: “We can see the number of points we have. When there’s a fire you have to find a solution. Thanks to the fans, they’re incredible. Nobody is going to give up. Tomorrow we’ll get back to work and focus on Albacete. We must keep insisting, starting with me,” he added.

The team is working hard to find a solution to the situation: “The team wants to resolve the problem, but perhaps they can't. We have to detect the problem, look for solutions within the squad. It’s more of a personality situation, because we need to connect from the outset. When we concede a goal, we can't be moaning and protesting. The team certainly tried, and yes, I can see a lot of soul there. Two colleagues have sat in this chair before me. Thanks so much to the fans, as this is very tough,” he commented.

The key to change must be found: “We lost a unique moment to change the mindset and we have to find that victory through hard work to be able to get results. This will help us to believe in ourselves and boost self-esteem. When you come from a draw in Gijón, every match you lose is multiplied by a thousand. We have to change the chip and focus on beating Albacete,” Sergio Pellicer stated.

It's difficult, but now’s the time to work hard and trust in what we’re doing, the coach adds: “No one here is going to give up, we’re not going to destroy each other. It’s tough but I have a lot of strength. We need to do a lot of hard graft behind the scenes. We have got this result in the situation we’re in and we need to change the dynamic, there’s no point looking for excuses,” he concluded.
