The Blue and White defender appeared before the media following the defeat at home against Oviedo. “This is a tough season for us. We put in the effort, but the results aren’t coming,” he affirmed.
“We’re disappointed as we knew it was a very important game. We had to win the three points, and it's a crucial opportunity that we let slide. We have to keep working hard, we can't give up. We’re in a very complicated situation and we understand that the fans are very angry,” he initially stated.
Jonas considers that “I don't know where the problem is. However, we can improve, we just have to keep working. The coach has only just arrived. It’s not a normal situation that many coaches have gone through. Tomorrow we have to come to work and think about the next game,” he continued.
In regard to Burgos’ red card, “I didn’t hear what Esteban said to the referee. They scored a goal and when you’re left with 10 men it becomes an uphill struggle. But I don't know what he said to him,” said the defender, who had an impact at the key moment of the match: “They scored a goal and then a teammate is sent off, it was a double whammy. Being a player down in this division is extremely difficult. With 10 men and trailing on the scoreboard, everything becomes harder.”
“We understand the chants. We have a very good squad, yet we’re not showing it. It’s not surprising the fans are angry,” added Jonas, who went on to say: “We get that they’re annoyed and tired of the situation. We ask that you continue to support us. Thanks to those who cheer us on and continue to do so, despite their frustration.”
Along these lines, “it’s been a tough and complicated season for everyone. We put in the effort, but the results aren’t coming. It’s so hard to lift yourself up from this situation. However, the team is united, and we cannot give up as there are many matches remaining. We have to keep working hard, there’s no other option,” he said.
To conclude, he commented: “Very good players arrived, we had a spectacular squad. They set very high expectations, but you have to show it on the pitch. If we’re down at the bottom end of the standings, it's for a reason. I am confident, with the squad we have, we’ll get out of there,” he continued.
