Pellicer: “We are not living up to what the fans deserve”

Málaga CF’s coach spoke after the draw against Córdoba CF. “We are making mistakes and we have to be self-critical,” he stated.

Self-critical after the draw

“We gave great empathy with the people who have supported us until the very end. When you feel that you are not delivering results, I feel it, and I have the utmost empathy for the fans. I am ultimately responsible. If this atmosphere continues like this, it becomes difficult. What matters least is the self, the ego of each individual. We are making mistakes and we have to be self-critical. The action leading to the equaliser is what hurts me the most. We are not showing that regularity, that stability as a team. We need to analyse and have maximum empathy.”

Capable and strong

“I have tremendous strength. I’m a tough character, but I have a lot of empathy. My message was to step up and fight to be among the top 10. If you won, you could leap up seven positions or so. Football has no memory, we are judged by results, but I believe there is work being done, even if we are not living up to what the fans deserve. I feel capable. It’s true that if we are not stable and solid, we are a small team. I take that self-criticism calmly and with composure. I feel that pain, but also that responsibility. If this continues, it’s going to be difficult for the players. But I understand the situation.”

Team stability

“The most important thing is for the team to start winning and deliver what the fans want. We’ve come through a very difficult run away from our stadium. We haven’t been stable, I take responsibility, but the team has soul. We are, or I am, failing to provide more stability, and we are being heavily penalised for it.”
