Pellicer: “Very happy with the victory; we believed and fought until the end”

Málaga CF’s coach spoke after the win against FC Cartagena at Cartagonova. “The connection with the fans is key. They created a little Rosaleda here,” he said

Match analysis

“We secured the three points with a struggle and in the last play. It was a tough match where Cartagena created several chances. They also had a very tight defence, leaving little space. We tried, but we lacked precision, clarity, and more intensity when regaining possession. I believe our recent results didn’t reflect our performances on the pitch. That’s why we truly value these three points because, even when we play well, winning hasn’t been easy for us. Now, we’re already focused on our next match against Tenerife.”

Initial approach to the game

“From the very beginning, we wanted to go for the game. We didn’t start well, giving a boost to a rival, with all due respect, who wasn’t in their best form. When you’re in such a complicated situation, you have to capitalise on the opponent's mistakes. It’s true that we lacked intensity in the first half, and we weren’t accurate with our passes. I’m thankful for that last play of the match, just like we saw in Tarragona.”

A tough match against FC Cartagena

“We didn’t play well in the sense that we made mistakes that gave a lot of energy to the rival. If we had played this match against Almería, it would have been considered a good performance. Whether in victories, draws, or losses, it’s important to understand why things happen. I’m very clear about the work of the players: believing and fighting until the end, that should never stop.”

Happy with the win

“Both the victory and Baturina’s goal are very important. He’s a player who works constantly, and he deserves it. The connection with the fans is key, they created a little Rosaleda in the stadium. I always say we need to maintain balance, focusing on the positive and continuing to fight until the end. I don’t forget everything that happened before, the tough match created by Cartagena despite their standing, but I hope Roko continues to find his moments.”
