Pellicer: You have to have faith and keep believing
The Blue and White coach spoke to the media today, Friday, at the press conference prior to the Atco. Baleares-Málaga CF clash: “The fans have invested in feeling and now is the time to generate confidence in them,” he said.
Sergio Pellicer held a press conference after this morning’s training session. The coach started out by analysing the spectacular atmosphere last Saturday at La Rosaleda and his wish for it to continue: “The important thing is that we realise that we must have faith and believe. Fighting a ball that was going out, a good set piece shot, Nelson causing the mistake... The goal was also scored by La Rosaleda, in another context it would not have gone in. The Grada de Animación was the one that pushed us to the goal, and we have to thank them. You have to have faith and keep believing. We have to be more competitive. Now is the time to build trust. In each match at La Rosaleda, with that atmosphere, we represent many people who have invested in feeling, and we have to return it with faith. Let every corner here be like a penalty for the rival,” he stated.
The coach also talked about the upcoming opponent: “The Balearic Islands have been seeking for years to be a pioneer team in the category. They have conceded two goals from set pieces, they are highly consistent and supportive on a defensive level. We have to know how to compete in a difficult scenario, but we have to give continuity to the energy. We need to go out there with determination and consistency as if we were playing at home. It’s going to be a difficult game, they come from having a good match against Ibiza, they manage the structures with a defence of five and four. We have to generate many situations to give a high level,” he commented.
Pellicer is clear about the way forward: “We have to gain confidence and build self-esteem with the victory the other day. We have a lot to improve, insisting on the things that will make us better. This is the third matchday and we want to get an away victory to return to La Rosaleda in a week’s time. It involves competing away from home and being very strong at La Rosaleda, to aspire to the Club’s demands,” he added.
Union and hunger, the coach's recipe: “The most important thing is that we have the squad and now we need unity and to trust in the lads. There is a great deal of enthusiasm and hunger, we have to get the most out of the team and take a step forward. We are happy with what we see on a daily basis and during the week. I hope that on Sunday we can continue to build that trust. We saw it in the last goal and there must be continuity. The important thing is that there is enthusiasm, hunger and daily competitiveness,” he stated.
The coach was asked about his relationship with the sporting director, to which he answered: “Loren and I are football people, we know the values of sport. What happens on the pitch stays on the pitch, even if we have differences. Sincerity and transparency are good, we both want the best. The commitment is brutal. I try to give him some ideas, then we work as a team. We have a very trusting relationship and get along great. It’s about honesty, work and maximum commitment,” he concluded.
