Pellicer: We’re moving forward with our feet on the ground

The Málaga CF coach held a press conference ahead of league matchday 8, which will pit the Blue and Whites against UD Melilla. “This competition is very long, and we have to focus on the day to day and not think too much beyond that,” he stated.

Recovered and full of enthusiasm

“I'm improving all the time. It's true that I still have the staples and that I still can't move as easily as I would like on the bench, but I was there the other day. I’m prepared and very excited for tomorrow.”

Importance of the group

“We play to the limit. Playing for another team is not the same as playing here. A match at Málaga requires a very different physical and mental effort. We have to learn to play without players who are in good shape right now because during the year there will be sanctions, injuries, there will be peaks in form... Playing the 38 games at the highest level is tough, even more so in this club, because of everything it generates and the tension there is. Every time I notice that there is more unity in the group, the lads are moving forward, with their feet on the ground and with a lot of humility.”

A good rival for tomorrow

“Things have been very unfair for UD Melilla. A team that is normally strong at home is losing home games because of small details, and they compete very well away from home. Being at a good competitive level, it is the small details that make the difference. By merit, they should have more points. I prefer teams to come here after a victory. When you win, you tend to relax. They are going to be a very aggressive team both defensively and offensively.”

The ambition to improve

“In all the games we’ve seen the rival goal, but I think we have created chances to score more. There are situations in which we have to be more forceful. There are players who are giving us that clarity in the definition, but there are others who have to take that step. That is going to be the key.”

The key: day to day

“We have to focus on ourselves. The biggest enemy of a team is itself. We have to create a good environment within the dressing room, between players and the coaching team, and convey to the fans what we are transmitting. This competition is very long, and we have to focus on the day to day and not think too much beyond that.”
