Pellicer: “It's a game where we need to be strong at home”

Málaga CF's coach appeared at La Rosaleda on the eve of the #MálagaRealOviedo match. “We have shown that we are ready to fight against any team,” he said.

Oviedo, a rival on good form

“Because of their coach and their squad, they have a very clear objective: to fight for direct promotion. We’re facing them at the best moment of their season, they're progressing with Calleja’s signature style, being bold and capable of adapting to different situations, and then there's the presence of Santi Cazorla, a football maestro and mentor for all young players. I played against him towards the end of my career, and he’s the best I've seen using both feet. He had a golden era here (...) It’s a team that reflects their coach, but we've shown that we're ready to fight against any team. Now comes a crucial phase, and tomorrow is a game where we need to be strong at home, in front of our fans, and secure three points at La Rosaleda.”

Haitam and Luismi, absent

“Except for Haitam and Luismi, everyone is available. Luismi is doing well, but it's not the right time to take risks, even though he was really eager to play. It's impossible for everyone to play the full 90 minutes, due to factors like fatigue and intensity, and that opens up a range of possibilities that gives us a framework for the future.”

Izan, Ochoa and Cordero

“When building the squad, we had these three young players in mind. Their performance speaks for itself. This isn't just for show. I have a lot on the line, it's a responsibility, and it's about staying strong and consistent. For me, it's a pleasure to have players with that profile. In the end, it's the pitch that does the talking.”

Strong mentality

“Every match requires you to be at your limit, both as a team and individually. There are form fluctuations, but what I want is for the player to be mentally prepared and very strong. We are privileged, so no excuses. I want a team that is mentally tough and can bounce back after a mistake; and I keep pushing, pushing, pushing, striving for excellence and the best possible form. It will be a selection process, and I have confidence in all the players.”

Strikers

“Dioni, Castel… Roko is also working very well. Sergio is making progress, Roko too, and Dioni had a very complete game the other day. Maybe one will play, or the other, but they will all have opportunities. Sergio is ready, Dioni is accumulating minutes, and we need to take care of him, and Roko is doing great, he just needs that chance, and he will score.”
