Pellicer: “The team gives it their all; we have to keep pushing”

The Malaguista coach spoke after the team’s draw against Real Oviedo. “Oviedo has an incredible squad depth. They are in great form this season, and we posed problems for them,” he stated.

The last play

“We had the clearest chance of the match in the last minute. Today we faced a rival that will be at the top, and they pushed us to our limits. In the end, it all comes down to the last play, and we have to accept that. Despite all the situations, we showed what we have. We give it our all, we’re in the game, but today they had better opportunities and we had the clearest one. Knowing that they push us to our limits provides a clear picture of what awaits us.”

The team always gives it their all

“We gave it our all. We’re at our limit against a team built to be promoted. We need to keep pushing. Today in midfield, we lacked adjustments, and we needed better timing on the final pass and to position ourselves correctly. We must keep working, and we can’t say anything to the players, they finished exhausted. There are many things to improve, but we must have done something good as well.”

Busy calendar

“What mattered most was this match. There will be changes in Tenerife, I don’t know how many, but there will be. What I’ve said so far will be fulfilled. We must set the expectation that in every match, opponents will push us to our limits. Also, we need to know that we are a difficult team to face at La Rosaleda. As for the penalty? We all missed; there are no heroes or villains. It’s a learning experience.”

Antoñito’s penalty

“He was ready to take it. This is football. I like forwards to take the penalties. I’ve been around for years, and at that age, I haven’t seen a strike like his. We all missed. He scored the goal for promotion as well (the opposite). I see anxiety, from a place of calm, the goal will come again. An example of this is Alfonso, who brings calmness and stability, and from there, a player shows their best version.”

A big rival

“We had doubts about the wingers and the midfield. We had our plan, and we were bold. Oviedo has incredible squad depth; they are in great form this season, and we posed them problems.”

Demanding schedule

“It pushes us to our limits. We know what our objective is, to secure our place in the league and reach those 50 points. We are always in the game, but we need to collect points three at a time. We must improve and keep pushing. And let people know that this team gives it their all and aims to reach the maximum of our capabilities. We need to understand that it’s going to be hard.”
