Pellicer: “It’s a difficult day, but we’re not going to give up”

Málaga CF’s head coach spoke to the media following the defeat against SD Huesca at El Alcoraz. “This is not the time for regrets, but for analysing and identifying what we’re missing,” he said.

Match analysis

“There were two completely different halves. I think the first was very evenly matched. I’d even say we started the game better, especially with the chances Juanpe created when we were able to break through their first line of pressure. Even so, they caused us some danger from set pieces, which is one of their biggest strengths. Huesca is one of the best teams in that aspect.”

“In the second half, they got the upper hand with the intensity they bring in second balls and set pieces. We had a lot of trouble getting past their initial press. Even so, we were still in the game, still competing, and that’s why I think the current situation feels a bit cruel to us, especially considering the hard work put in by the team.”

Remain calm and keep working hard

“It’s a tough blow, and I want to reassure the boys because there’s still a long way to go. We have to keep pushing, even if today we have to swallow some bitterness. Yes, it’s a difficult day, but we’re not going to give up. We have to keep fighting to turn this around.

“This is about persistence, about everyone pulling in the same direction. We’ve got seven games left, and now it’s time to focus on the next one, against Eibar. We can’t afford to suffer twice as much.”

Self-criticism to turn the situation around

“We need to be self-critical. Something might be missing, and we need to find it. Because in the end, I don’t believe in luck: luck has to be worked for. This is not the time for complaints, but for analysis. We know that many people are hurting, we’re going through a tough situation, and we have to face it, especially the players, with a lot of confidence and hard work.”
