Pellicer: It’s important to be strong at La Rosaleda

The Blue and White coach held a press conference following the victory against Recreativo Granada: “We have to be calm and balanced.”

Sergio Pellicer appeared in the Juan Cortés press room at La Rosaleda Stadium this Saturday evening. The coach analysed the victory against the Granada reserve team: “We must give continuity to the atmosphere that is being created. I have to analyse the game to see the things we have to continue improving. The important thing is that the group is gaining confidence. It’s important to be strong at La Rosaleda. This is the way forward, to be strong at home,” he explained.

The coach is happy with the result but remains cautious: “Winning gives a great deal of confidence, a lot of self-esteem. But you have to be balanced and know that there are many things to improve. The players know it. We have also seen many positives. There are many things to analyse. You see a team in which the lads give their all, they don't give up a ball. This is the path we have to set for ourselves. The effort is non-negotiable and the fans value that,” he confirmed.

The team has accumulated three consecutive victories: “Málaga sleeps as the leader of the group. We’ve had three straight wins. There are many young players, with a lot of enthusiasm. We have to be calm and balanced. That energy they have is wonderful. But this has only just started. You must maintain that self-esteem and confidence and, above all, that connection with the fans. Everything happens through here, through La Rosaleda. And I think we’ll also be competitive away from home,” he added.

Despite the resounding victory, the coach shows certain self-criticism: “We want what we worked on during the week to be seen in the matches. The coach is never happy. We always want to improve. On the attack the team is generating many chances. There haven’t been so many opportunities in that finishing zone in a while. It's getting a little tougher for us to close out the games, however. Sometimes they come easy to us. We want to be daring and look for the opposite goal and that sometimes has a toll. We have to work hard and improve that, and keep insisting to find that balance without losing what we are seeing now in the finishing zone,” he said.
