Pellicer: “This is the most important moment of the season; we must stay calm”
The Málaga coach spoke after the defeat against Córdoba CF at La Rosaleda. “I don't think we deserved to lose; it's time to stay calm and be self-critical,” he said.
Highly competitive match
“It was a very evenly matched game. The main difference, especially from their side, came in set-piece situations. The goal hurt us, and those 15 minutes after the goal, they put pressure on us, and we couldn't break through that pressure line. I ask for calm, it's true that it's a tough blow, but we need to stay calm. We've had it so far, it happened last year, and now it's time for calm, to be self-critical. If we look at the balance of the match and the clear chances, I don't think we deserved to lose.”
The team had chances
“We had almost four chances right under the line. Kevin, Chupe, Dioni... those are very clear chances inside the box, and we didn't take them. They created danger for us with set-piece actions, in second-ball situations. It's something that's been penalising us in both boxes in the second half of the season.”
Key moment of the season
“Clearly, only results matter, but this is a time to give confidence to the guys because it's the most important moment of the season. And the criticism should be constructive, not destructive. It's a time to stay calm, there are eight games left, and I’m not throwing in the towel. We’re here to fight because getting two consecutive wins will get the fans back on board.”
Calm and optimism to reconnect with the fans
“I want to convey calm. Our job is to be pessimistic in victory and optimistic in defeat. We need to go against the current, accepting all situations. The first ones hurt are the players in the dressing room. They've given their all. I want them to stay calm and make the right decisions. We need to recover the mindset that allows us to make the right choices. In the next match, we need to be effective in both boxes. From there, the players are the key, and we have to reconnect with the fans so that La Rosaleda becomes that fortress again.”
