MCF’s Chilean-born Manager, Manuel Pellegrini, spoke to the sports media in La Rosaleda’s press room after the Málaga-Betis match.
Pellegrini’s statements: “We lost against Betis who made no direct shots to the goal throughout the 90 minutes, only corners, and the chances that we created, we didn’t convert; today the ball just didn’t want to go in. We were able to attack but we lacked clarity but we certainly created chances. Unfortunately, there were two balls that decided the game. After that the team didn’t have the necessary clarity but we had enough chances not lose this match. The result depends on lots of things, the team responded but they didn’t have the required luck. We must now focus on the next home game; eight games remain and nothing’s yet decided.”
“The last thing we did was relax, but perhaps we lacked clarity. There’s been no resting on laurels and I have no complaint to make to the team. We were unlucky with the goal chances, but the team will keep fighting on. I was expecting a more offensive Betis, but I don’t think they had it in them, and we generated enough chances not to lose the match. Now we have more time to prepare for the next game and next week there are nine points which will clarify where the team can end up. We have the taste of defeat in our mouths but we have to continue on with what we’ve been doing.”
