The ‘Malaguista’ coach is pleased with Málaga CF’s performance: “Tonight’s match was one of the best of the season; we had six or seven clear goal opportunities in the first half and another two or three more in the second.  The goal in stoppage time was the result of a set piece, and I think it was a very ‘complete’ match overall.  The team performed very well tonight, both emotionally, having come from the Champions League defeat, and physically too.  From a footballing point of view, we played a great match.”
 
Following Málaga CF’s Champions League defeat in Dortmund last Tuesday, the Chilean-born coach states: “This is why football is the most popular sport in the world, with all the passion, drama, excitement and intensity that comes with it.  We were dealt a crushing blow on Tuesday, but we gained a vital three points here tonight, which will go towards our determination to get to the Champions next season.”

In the emotional moments after the match, the team and Pellegrini came out to greet the fans: “I didn’t realise the team was still on the pitch, so I returned to celebrate with the crowd.”
