Pellegrini: “The biggest incentive for us is to bring another three points home”

Málaga CF coach, Manuel Pellegrini, held a press conference this afternoon at the Ciudad de Málaga Athletics Stadium.

“The biggest incentive for us is to bring another three points home.  If you add up all the points we’ve earned in away matches so far this season, we’ve not done badly at all.  On the other hand we’ve not been quite so lucky in some recent matches, and have scored few goals in away games.  Our biggest aim for this match is to get three points, particularly as we’re up against a direct rival like Sevilla.”

“Tomorrow’s match won’t be easy, whichever way you look at it.  I don’t think you can look at previous results to determine what sort of game we’ll face tomorrow.  Sevilla will be playing in front of their fans, so I hope that they’ll find themselves against a high-level Málaga team that can take the three points home.”

“It was the first match of the season, we had eight or nine new players, and didn’t play at all well defensively.  We lost 2-1, which I think is a fair result considering we were playing away against the mighty Sevilla.  However we need to perform much better at the Sánchez Pizjuán this time around.  Luckily we have improved a lot since then, we made it into the top part of the League table and qualified for the Champions League, which was our objective all year.”

“Personally, as coach, I rarely look at what our rivals have done in the past.  The most important thing is that we’re focused and prepared for this match, as Sevilla is a direct rival and also fighting for Champions qualification.  They’ve got some great players who can easily throw a game off-balance if given enough space and time.  To concentrate on our performance is far more important than trying to guess what Sevilla will do.  They are a tough team to beat, particularly at home in front of their fans, and they’re also determined to keep the three points.”
