Pellegrini: “Osasuna will try and prevail in their home ground”

Málaga Club de Fútbol’s first team manager, Manuel Pellegrini, spoke to the media this lunchtime, Sunday 22nd April, in La Rosaleda’s press room.

Pellegrini’s statements:

(Match against Osasuna) “All matches are tough and the one against Osasuna will be too.  They’re a good rival, especially at home, and they’ll try and prevail in their home ground in front of their fans.   We know of their strengths in aerial ball work.”

“Winning or losing in Pamplona will not mean achieving or losing any objective.  It’s a very important match but not a decisive one.  We’ll go out with optimism and defend our Champions place from minute one until the very end.”

“Having secured the place we have now doesn’t put us at ease because the important thing is to be there at the end of the season.  We don’t think about that to free ourselves of the responsibility or ambition, we’ll go out in Pamplona giving it our all as always.”

(Rivals) “The fewer points the rivals get the better, of course; but the important thing is our results and we try and get them in every match.  If that is achieved due to rivals’ mistakes, so be it, but we will go out with the same intention of notching up points in Pamplona as always.”

(Joaquín and the absences) “Joaquín is a very important player for us.  We’ve got some important absences and we have had throughout the whole season, and that’s a handicap, but to the team’s merit we’ve been able to overcome these absences and difficulties.  Joaquín coming back is, without doubt, hugely important.”

“The more alternatives there are, the better it is for the team.  In the case of Mathijsen, we must see how we can best substitute him, and continue to overcome the rivals as we have done before.”

(Final leg of the calendar) “We look at all rivals in the same way, thinking firstly about who we have coming up next.  We never look at rivals thinking about their reputation or previous experience and we never go out thinking we’ve already lost a match. We have a difficult end of the season, but we’ll go out fighting in the five games that remain.”
