Orlando Sá retires from professional football

The Portuguese international striker, who turns 33 today, has decided to hang up his boots at the end of the 2020/21 season following a fresh injury to his Achilles Tendon.

Before the team's training session got underway today at La Rosaleda, the Portuguese player announced the decision to his teammates, coaching staff, medic and assistants with some emotional words. “Thank you for this year and I wish you all the best. Now I have to look forward to new beginnings, it’s been a pleasure enjoying this experience with you all,” he said.

Orlando Carlos Braga de Sá (Portugal, 26/05/1988) was Málaga CF’s first signing of the current season, which comes to an end for the Blue and Whites at the weekend at La Rosaleda against CD Castellón.

With an extensive career in many countries on his service record, the striker arrived at the Club once he finished his cycle with Belgian outfit, Standard Liege after overcoming a serious injury at the twilight of his career.

From the outset, Orlando fit right in to the Malaguista dressing room, full of young homegrown players, who they considered an older brother from whom to learn from his immense experience in football at the highest level.

At the end of the present season, once his contract with Málaga CF comes to an end on 30th June, Sá will bid farewell to professional football after sustaining another injury to his Achilles Tendon. He donned the Blue and White jersey 21 times (564 minutes of play) (18 League games, three Cup games – one goal).

Málaga Club de Fútbol thanks Orlando Sá for his professionalism and dedication over the last year of his successful football career. Lots of luck on this new stage of your life! And Happy Birthday Orlando!
