Ontiveros and Diego inherit Duda and Weli’s numbers
The new season debut offers curiosities and novelties in the numbering of Málaga CF’s first team players.
The departure of players who formed part of the Club’s history, such as former captains, Duda and Weligton, who made the numbers ‘17’ and ‘3’ their identity, has allowed young players like Javi Ontiveros and Diego González to inherit their numbers, respectively.
In the case of Ontiveros, it’s more significant, since the young Marbella-born player shared the dressing room with Duda, who regularly praised the quality of his successor to the number ‘17’ jersey. Diego, the new central defender, also inherits the number of another historical player, Weligton. His number was also worn by Demichelis, who is now part of the coaching team, during the second round of last season’s campaign.
In goal, there has been a total renovation, with three incorporations bearing the classic goalkeeping numbers: Roberto with ‘1’, Cenk with ‘13’ and Andrés with number ‘25’. There have also been players who have changed their number in respect of last season, such as Kuzmanovic, who now wears the number ‘6’ of Camacho, and Luis Hernández, who has moved from ‘24’ to ‘4’, that used to belong to Mikel, who is currently on loan.
Amongst the new signings, Adrián is wearing the iconic number ‘8’ jersey; Borja the ‘9’ as centre forward; Baysse with ‘22’; and Cecchini wearing number ‘19’. New team captains, Recio, Rosales and Torres maintain the same numbers as past seasons. Furthermore, like every year, there’s room for the homegrown players as from number ‘26’, with new faces including Robles, Maty and José Carlos.
