Press conference

“It’s not an easy path, but we’re satisfied with what we’re building”

Loren Juarros spoke to the media during a press conference at La Rosaleda, reflecting on the 2024/25 season. “We’ve taken an important step by consolidating the team in professional football,” said the Club’s sporting director.

Season review

“Goals achieved. The first objective was to be able to sustain ourselves in professional football. We are satisfied with what we are building. The club model we have chosen is not an easy path, but it is sustainable and can provide viability in the medium to long term.”

“The first half of the season was remarkable in terms of numbers, and although the second half didn’t maintain that points performance, analysing the data from each match, the chances created, and the opportunities to earn points, we deserved a bit more.”

“In terms of data, we have been the team with the most homegrown players in professional football. We must be self-critical and think about what more we can do, everyone, starting with me and the entire club structure. The coaching staff has done an outstanding job, fully committed to the project, and we are all focused on improving in our respective areas.”

“We have to try to provide the club’s sporting structure with the best conditions to work with these young players and accelerate their development process.”

“We must not become complacent, this year has laid an important foundation for the season ahead.”

Pellicer

“The coach has not given me any doubts, and we are planning the preseason. We are counting on him. He has a contract, and we want him to continue.”

Objective

“The goal is to win every match we play. Next year, we need to be more demanding, more self-critical, more ambitious, all while staying humble. Humility is the fundamental premise, being winners in every game. We have taken an important step by consolidating the team in professional football.”

Salary cap

“We need to know the salary cap and manage the situations accordingly. I’m very happy with the vast majority of players in the squad. There are good starters who aren’t great substitutes, and very good substitute players for the team. We’ll handle it well, LaLiga keeps you in check, and we’ll assess and put everything together. As for signings? Some positions are very clearly defined, while others will depend on what the salary cap allows.”

Squad and planning

“If you aim for higher-level players, you might have to wait for clubs to value them accordingly. We don’t want to rush things, but it won’t depend solely on us to make it happen as soon as possible, especially for specific positions. There is time, and the financial aspect is also important for decision-making.”

“We are open to considering anything that comes up. Buying players isn’t easy right now, but everything is analysable and open for discussion. We want to strengthen the team in those key positions as best as possible. We won’t dismiss players based on age or current sporting situation. We will evaluate everything while meeting our sporting criteria”

Atlético Malagueño

“Promotion? It doesn’t change our perspective of what we want. There will be players we believe will be part of the first team in the medium term. We have renewed several players, retained important ones, and we won’t hold onto players if we don’t see future potential.”

Message to the fans

“Keep supporting the team as you have been. This team is going to bring you a lot of joy. Stay hopeful and continue to support us like you have these last two seasons.”

Preseason

“The return is on 7th July. The week before, there will be medical check-ups. As for matches, this week I have meetings to decide how we’ll organise them. Regarding the training camp, I’m not sure yet, maybe a stage abroad or nearby. We’ll see the coaching staff’s preferences and evaluate what the best preseason plan is. We’ll also consider the “Málaga brand” as a city and province, since it’s known worldwide.”
