Press conference
Nacho: “The team deserved more”

Málaga CF’s second coach, who debuted in the dugout due to Pepe Mel’s suspension, held a press conference following the match against CD Tenerife. “We wanted to get two consecutive wins; we’re not happy with the draw,” he said.

“We’re in a situation where we need to win the three points each time. As much as we were superior on the pitch and had more possession, that’s of no use to us right now,” Nacho started out by saying. “We wanted to continue on from the last win at home, from which we were left with very good feelings, and we wanted to get two consecutive wins. The lads kept trying until the last minute. Despite conceding the goal, they never gave up and went all out for the tie. We’re not happy with the draw, but we must carry on and focus on the next match,” he said.

In regard to the continuity in the starting-11: “We look at the condition of the players and the important thing is that they all contribute. Whether they’re in the starting line-up, on the bench or not called-up, we’re all in this together,” Nacho added.

“We have to try to ensure the players are clear about what they’re playing for and that they generate chances. The concerning thing would be not to create them at all. The important thing is that they see they’re generating opportunities. We believe we’ll get out of this situation,” said Mel’s right-hand man. “Pepe is angry that the rival had one shot and got the goal, yet we had four chances and got just one. Today the team deserved more.”

Regarding his experience in charge of the dugout, he commented: “I felt comfortable as we were talking about how the match was going. It’s a dream come true as a man of the house, we need to continue along this line, I felt very comfortable with Pepe Mel’s help and the entire coaching team. The work we do every day needs to be reflected on the pitch and become good results”. In relation to new signing Delmás, Nacho said he was “good in his first minutes, he needs time to adapt, but he’ll help us a lot.”

Finally, he thanked the fans for their support. “It's a shame not to get the three points so the fans go home happy. We’re working hard, we spend many hours preparing the matches to get the three points. We have to stay focused on getting out of this position. Thanking the fans isn’t enough, they’re always there cheering us on. We’ll all get out of this together,” he concluded.
