Rubén Castro: “There are many points left; we’re going to do this”

The Málaga CF goal-scorer in the match against CD Tenerife held a press conference after the game. “There were almost 22,000 fans here today, we are giving our all on the pitch and we’re going to try to give them the happiness they deserve,” he said.

Rubén Castro spoke to the media following the draw that adds another point in the standings: “A point is a point. The team deserved much more than the draw, we gave our all, everything we’ve got, and did all we could to win. It’s hard for us to score a goal, but I remain with the team’s attitude and the fans’ support,” explained the striker.

Rubén scored his 283rd goal today in professional league competition, one away from Quini and two away from being the top national scorer. Despite the record-breaking data, the striker wants more: “It’s costing me more than ever to score. This is football, I'm trying my best, we've started the year well. Let's hope it continues like this and serves to get many more points,” he stated.

It was a nail-biting goal and the VAR had to intervene to clarify the action to the referee: “The goal was nearly taken away from me. On the pitch they said Fran was offside and was involved in the shot. They reviewed it, granted the goal and we got the draw,” he added.

Rubén is self-critical and also recognises the good work of his teammates: “I'm having many chances in all the matches. Today, two or three. I’m the one who is not making the most of them, this didn’t happen before. I’m very grateful to my teammates for their trust in me,” he said.

Malaguismo has made Rubén Castro fall in love: “You want to play football for these fans, they truly are something else. They really make you want to play, yet we’re not making them happy. There were almost 22,000 fans here today, we are giving our all on the pitch and we’re going to try to give them the happiness they deserve,” he concluded.
