Muñiz: “We deserved to win until the last second”

Málaga CF coach, Juan Ramón López Muñiz held a press conference following #SportingMálaga, and affirmed he’s “satisfied with the game, but not the result”.

Victory in hand

“You leave happy because you’ve scored points, but sad because the team had the victory in the bag, but that’s only a sure thing after the referee has blown the final whistle. As such, neither team was happy with the result. When you’ve practically won the game, it’s such a pity to lose it in the final minute. We must be demanding of ourselves and never conform. One point? It’s good, as it means we’ve claimed something, but today the team worked hard to take all three, and above all we had them in the bag. However, many times when this happens, the points are taken away from you before you’ve even realised and then the match comes to an end”.

Equal category

“We’re continually seeing the category in these situations, but when it occurs it impacts you. We know these things happen a lot over the course of the season, many times in our favour, but when things go the other way you ask how and what happened. We’ll learn from this, but we’re leaving here today with the feeling that we could have won the three points, or we had them in hand by gameplay and result. Everything was pretty controlled until a careless moment…In the Second Division rivals can hurt you, they can score a goal, and in the end, in a match you’re winning, they take two points away from you at the last second. However, at any point in the season things can go in our favour, it always does.”

A team

“This has to bolster the group, the fact that the players showed they’re a team from start to finish. The line-up and who plays is independent, the team plays, competes and took the lead. It has to be a reinforcement for the team, which has proved to have extremely competent players to achieve results, when we’re the team like we saw today. We should leave satisfied with the game, but not the result, as it’s not whether the game goes level or not, it’s when they give something to you and then take it away, you’re left feeling foolish. For this reason we’re angry, but we’re happy the lads did a good job, nearly defeating a good team at a very good ground”.

New additions to the line-up

“As for the players in the starting line-up, I’m very pleased. They did a good job and showed that at any moment they can participate, which is fundamental from here until matchday 42. We’re only 13 games in and if we want to complete for something we need to compete with a team, and today they showed they’re a team. There were absences, but they weren’t noticeable. The players come in, compete, take the weight of the match for a long time, and deserved to win until the last second”.
