Minimal defeat by Gladbach (2-1)

Málaga CF lost out to Borussia Mönchengladbach at the PCC-Stadion in Duisburg-Homberg. Following a great goal from homegrown player, Mula, the German outfit came from behind with goals from Oxford and Raffael, the latter from the penalty spot.

The German side had more domination of the match at the beginning, with the first opportunity arriving after 4 minutes, with a one-on-one between Herrmann and Roberto. Málaga reacted by regaining possession, with Recio acting as a compass in the wide area, and Keko generating the best chance of the first half with a dangerous shot in minute 13.

Gladbach returned to take the reins of play, and went on to score twice in minutes 21 and 32, but the referee disallowed both goals for being offside. An active Herrmann, from a free kick (25’), and defender, Ginter (34’) with a header, completed the goal opportunities for the German side during the first half. At the end of the first 45 minutes, the scoreboard remained at 0-0.

In the second half, Míchel introduced Miguel Torres in place of Chory, moving Juankar over to the left. This half kicked off at a slower pace, as Málaga didn’t face any excessive push in defence by the Germans. However, in minute 58, Roberto saved a close-range shot by Hofmann. A minute later, Keko filtered a pass to Mula, and the homegrown player showed control and quality with his shot from the edge of the area, to put Málaga CF in the lead (0-1, 59’).

In minute 64, the usual pre-season carousel of changes came about, with several players from the Academy present. Gladbach, from a set piece, equalised with a goal from Oxford following a corner kick (1-1, 77’). In the final stage of play, the German side went in front thanks to a non-existent penalty that was converted by Raffael (2-1, 86’). Victory for the Borussia team, in MCF’s final match of this stage of the pre-season in Europe.

Míchel González chose the following Malaguista line-up: Roberto (Cenk Gönen 64’); Rosales (Álex Robles 64’), Luis Hernández (Luis Muñoz 64’), Baysse (Mikel 64’), Juankar (Alberto López 64’); Keko (Cifu 64’), Kuzmanovic (Maty 64’), Recio (José Carlos 64’), Chory (Miguel Torres 46’); Mula (David Ramos 64’) and Borja Bastón (En-Nesyri 64’).
