Gonzalo Borredá is the oldest former player in history who has been part of the Blue and Whites! Congratulations!
The Club, via its Foundation, wanted to pay homage to Borredá on his 86th birthday. Club advisers, Abdullah Ben Barek and Antonio Benítez conversed with him and presented him with a Malaguista jersey bearing his name and the number ‘6’ on the back.
Story of Di Stéfano’s ‘secante’ who survived a plane crash
Gonzalo Borredá Donat (31/07/1931, Ontiyent) played 158 official matches - 5 goals – with CD Málaga from 1954 until 1960. He was part of the Blue and Whites in the three main categories of Spanish football, usually occupying the position of defensive midfielder, and occasionally at the back as a defender.
On 23rd January 1955, Gonzalo Borredá would go down in history. Chales’ Málaga defeated Real Madrid by 3-1 with Borredá showing an extraordinary defence of Di Stéfano, impeding the gameplay of the great Real Madrid star. A year later, 29th September 1956, Borredá was part of the Malaguista expedition that travelled to Tenerife, and survived a plane crash.
His last match with Málaga was against the then Olímpico de Játiva, that led to Second Division promotion for CD Málaga.
