Míchel: “We want to win every single match”

The Malaguista coach analyses the preview to #MálagaRealMadrid: “My players don’t understand any other speech from their coach”.

Same preparation

“The message has been the same every week, we cannot change it. It wouldn’t be fair on our part, nor would it be credible. As such we have worked the same, with the same intention and same level of intensity, there can be no other way. I insist on this, firstly because the players have shown a trajectory in recent games that cannot modify their thinking, and also because I’m like that”.

Desire to win

“My players want to win every single match, regardless of the rival. We’ve had an irregular season. I always talk about the penance we are paying, and have been in every match, but just like how we played in Granada, how we played here against Barcelona, and against any other rival, we’re like that because that’s what we’ve tried to do. This morning I said again to the team; many thanks for the hard work you’ve done and for believing in us – they don’t understand any other speech from their coach. This coach who arrived here two and a half months ago, and has said the same thing every day – imagine if I said something different now?”

#MálagaRealMadrid, big game

“A draw would be sufficient for Real Madrid to be proclaimed champions, but they are facing a team who in the last 11 games, particularly the last eight, have played at a top level. What we will see is a great show, a great match. Real Madrid winning the League title because Málaga let them? No way. Taken out of context, there is a lot of speculation, but the football stats confirm that Madrid are a major team, as are Málaga”.

Getting it right

When you compete against rivals of Real Madrid’s level, it’s like trying to find a needle in a haystack, as they are a superb side. They have many alternatives, with an amazing quality and individual skill, as well as players with a great deal of character. This signifies that we have to do our job well, but as we always say, we have to take them somewhere they’re not accustomed to. This has brought us results, not just against first-rate teams like Real Madrid or Barcelona, but also against other rivals who are also great in this League. I’m not going to ask my players to give 100 per cent, because they always do, but we must ensure that we get it right, as we have been doing lately”.
