The Malaguista coach analyses the final match of the summer pre-season against UD Las Palmas in the Carranza Cup: “The players are showing signs of believing in what they’re doing, which will bring us results”.
Ready to compete
“Well, we’ve been working for a long time. Within a space of 24 hours we’ve played two matches, but we can already see that the players are working with us, at whatever age they are, including the reserve team members, they’re doing what we want them to do to advance with the team. We saw it yesterday, and again today. Of course, we’ve still got 10 days left yet until our first LaLiga match, and we’ll continue to improve. I believe the team is ready to compete. We would have liked to have achieved better results, but I’m not sure if we’d have had better results that the team would be as ready as they are now to face Eibar”.
Versatile squad
“We wanted a small, yet versatile squad for all the players to understand. Today we made three changes to the system during play, and the guys adapted, because that’s what we work hard to do, and they’re capable of managing the situation. It’s a way of competing, it’s what we did in the 12 matches heading up the team last season, and it’s the way forward. Our aim is to ensure every player, through hard work, knows what we want to do during matches or during the week in training, to arrive at the match on top form”.
Good sensations
“We did a lot of things well, but although luck has nothing to do with work, it wouldn’t have been strange to have seen a different result at the end of the first half. Despite the results we’ve had, in a lot of games we’ve performed at a good level. We want the young guys who are coming in to be the future of Málaga CF”.
Believing in hard work
“My squad needed confidence, which they are gradually beginning to acquire. From there, it’s all about doing the job, working tactically and ensuring the players trust in what they’re doing. In these games, and in many others, they are showing signs of believing in what they’re doing, which will bring us results. Yesterday was a clear example against a good team like Villarreal CF”.
Importance of the results
“Each time the results are less important, as I don’t know of any team that has been proclaimed LaLiga champions in the pre-season. From there we continue, with this level of morale and hard work, but what we’ve seen after seven weeks is hopeful that the team will return to the same path as last season”.
