Míchel: “The team has found a backbone”

The coach is faced with the possibility of repeating the eleven in Villarreal for the first time this season: “It was an unthinkable option before because something always happened to us. It’s good to give stability to the group”.

Villarreal

“They are a team that attacks very well, plays good football with players of very good standing. Their Club’s philosophy encourages them to play like this, regardless of the coaches who have been at the helm. I believe there are real options to attack and attack well. We said it before at Camp Nou, and we had our opportunities, so I don’t see why we can’t have them against Villarreal. Of course, our mentality is just that, spurred on by the victory the other day. Trying to be objective: we’re in a bad position in LaLiga, but with a very strong disposition and determined not to give anything away. If we didn’t give up without victories, imagine now”?

Repeating the eleven

It was an unthinkable option since the start of the season because something always happened to us. It’s good to give stability to the group, if we can repeat the line-up. If there are no last-minute changes, it’s a fairly stable option. The team has already more or less found a backbone”.

Chory Castro

“At the beginning, Chory was going through some physical difficulties during the pre-season. We associated him with another position and other functions on the team, and he’s doing very well. He performed well at the Wanda Metropolitano, and every day he’s doing better”.

Diego González

“Diego has been working with the fitness trainers for some time. We’ve been training with him all week, not wrapping him up in cotton wool, but trying to ensure he doesn’t suffer a setback, which would be pretty bad. However, he’s doing a lot better, and above all he looks very confident and happy, which is a sign that his knee is responding well”.

Fans

“A team can be pre-disposed, focused, and with the determination my players and I had, but the atmosphere before, during and after the match made us feel incredibly supported and protected. For us, the fans were a tremendous help in winning the match. My players on the pitch and the crowd did far more than the coach to win that game”.
