Míchel: “#MálagaFCB arrives at a good time”

The Malaguista coach, the day before the match against FC Barcelona: “Following the victory against Sporting we’re doing well. The players have shown that they can do it, and from now on we’ll play with much less pressure”.

Victory brings tranquillity

“The team forgot about adjectives or negative thinking and went for the points, which is what we really needed. I’m delighted for my players, as they feel as if a weight has been lifted. Proof of this is after we scored the goal, the team, with a few interventions by Kameni, felt much better on the pitch and are far closer to what we want to see. This comes with a level of calm brought about by the result, and I hope from here until the end of the season we can continue doing the same”.

Importance of team work

“Generally speaking, we defended very well in Gijón. However, the team won as a team, not individually. We have to play collectively, whether it’s against Sporting or Barcelona. We have an idea, and will develop it tomorrow. In order to do that, we need to work as a group”.

Good time to welcome FC Barcelona

“Following the victory the other day, this match arrives at a good time. We’re doing well, the players have shown that they can do it, and from now on we’ll play with much less pressure and much more like what we want to represent. This makes the team far more reliable, whether the rival is Barcelona or Sporting. In addition, as we’ve seen in recent weeks, there’s been a lot of frowning because of the difficult situation we were in, but now the team is much happier, uninhibited and with that dose of cheer that we were lacking. I hope this joy, beyond the result, will be seen on the pitch tomorrow against Barcelona”.

Winning minimises fatigue

“There’s nothing more recuperating and regenerating than victory. When you win, there is less fatigue. We have players at our disposal, we already made a few changes the other day, and we’ll do the same tomorrow. I’m certain that Wednesday’s win will help us to be less tired, although we’ll see that we’ll run the same amount as we did against Sporting”.

Players’ work is rewarded

“My attitude before you and before the players is the same. I don’t allow defeats or victories to make me more or less happy. There’s a part of me that likes to win, naturally, but as I’ve said before, and I’ve said to my family and friends, I’m thrilled that the players are working so hard. They wanted to make us happy, they wanted to convince us, and we needed them to get a victory to reap the rewards of their hard work. If I seem happier, it’s because I’m delighted to be staying here and looking forward to helping construct a new Málaga”.
