Míchel: “I really like this idea, this Club”

The Malaguista coach analyses the team in the first press conference of the present campaign: “The pre-season allows us to get to know and organise ourselves”.

Excitement

“I really like this idea, this Club, and I like it a lot more with everything’s that happened to me. In the last three months of competition when I was at the helm, things went very well. We created a notable atmosphere of joy and hope, which is something we want to maintain. When fans renew their season tickets at the speed we’ve seen, it’s not a responsibility for us, it’s a joy that shows they believe in us. That which is called a project in football, focuses no further than the upcoming weekend where we have to win and be part of the excitement that the fans create”.

The pre-season is for building

“I saw a tired team, a team that had accumulated a great deal of work in little time, and with an uncomfortable stay as we had to move, but that is no justification. The pre-season is the period I enjoy the least, including when I was a player, because it sometimes creates false expectations, both good and bad. It’s about building a team. Note everything that was said about us at the end of last season, yet in the first three weeks we only gained a point. This means we have to construct, and for that we need serenity and peace of mind. The other day I saw things I liked and some things I didn’t like, which is the same with everything. The pre-season allows us to get to know and organise ourselves. Competing isn’t the same as preparing”.

Team of the future

“The squad is going to be small but competitive. We’ve got young lads in the reserve team who are good players, and in addition, we hope that within four or five years these players will belong to the first team. Then we’ll start talking about the Academy players and Malagueños. It’s a project for the future”.
