Football returns to La Rosaleda with Málaga CF – SS Lazio

Málaga CF will welcome the fifth-placed ‘Serie A’ side in the 33rd edition of the Trofeo Costa del Sol.

The debut in front of the fans will take place on Saturday 5th August at 20:30. The price of tickets for this match and when they will go on sale, will be announced shortly.

The Blue and Whites’ trophy is one of the highlights of the pre-season, as it is the first time the Malaguista fans can watch their team in action against a first-rate rival. Last year the opponent was also from Italy, UC Sampdoria, with Málaga winning on penalties (4-2) after a goalless draw at full time.

Finishing in fifth place in last season’s ‘Serie A’, Simone Inzaghi’s Lazio are one of the strongest teams in 'Calcio', with standout players such as former Sevilla man, Immobile, Parolo, Lulic, Felipe Anderson and Marchetti, as well as ex-Blue and Whites’ player, Luis Alberto. Achievements include 2 Scudettos, 6 Coppa Italia titles, 3 Supercoppa Italiana wins, 1 UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup and 1 UEFA Super Cup.

Málaga are seeking their eighth title in this Costa del Sol competition under the name MCF (they won 3 times as CD Málaga), six of which were won in the last seven editions of this Cup. Fiorentina were the most recent, non-Malaguista champions, in 2014.

There are two other notable precedents against Italian rivals, apart from Lazio, which each ended with different results. MCF defeated Parma by 2-1 in the summer of 2010. In the second edition of this competition, AS Roma defeated the now extinct CD Málaga in 1962.
