Míchel: “I honestly and objectively believe that we will win”

The Málaga CF coach held a press conference ahead of #MálagaAthletic: “We look forward to a game in which we have the initiative and know how to be constant and strong in both areas”.

Important match, but not a final

“I wouldn’t be so dramatic, although the situation is very delicate and tense for us. Everything that’s happening, and us having no points yet isn’t normal. This match is tremendously important for us, but it’s not a final. Whatever happens, there’s a long way to go yet. From our point of view, we’re focused on reacting, and with that reaction comes victory”.

Athletic

“They come from two consecutive defeats, in Las Palmas and against Atlético de Madrid. However, they have more stability as they have more points in the rankings, which is also noticeable in the game. We have an increased sense of urgency, and look forward to a game in which we have the initiative and know how to be constant and strong in both areas, which is what we need. This will ensure that the gameplay, which at times is good, will convert into results”.

Morale

“I believe in it, have worked a lot on these questions since I became a coach, and it’s something I consider to be an important part. Being a fundamental aspect of the work being done, there’s also the responsibility of each player. The players know that we crossed the line some time ago, and we need to get moving. I’ve never complained about their attitude or their ability, but now is the time to think about what we need to do, which goes a lot further, although any help is welcomed. I don’t think it’s a question of the players not knowing what’s happening, and that is also an individual decision to favour the team”.

Win

“I’m always positive. I once said that I don’t think about playing anything without winning. I honestly and objectively believe that we will win tomorrow, as we’re going to play a good match. The only consequence I’m focusing on is the joy my players and the fans will feel when we win tomorrow. In addition, these issues don’t depend on me. What does depend on me is that my team is ready to play and win tomorrow, and that’s what I’m concentrating my work on. If I waste energy thinking about what might happen after the match I’ll get side-tracked, which is something I don’t want to do”.

Fans

“We’re all in step and we are invited by the fans to feel good here. The fans know this is their team, and what it means for us to be stable and with a good disposition. Tomorrow they’ll again do what they’ve done for such a long time, and I hope they try to be as close to the team as always. There are no reproaches, and with their support and encouragement, we’ll claim the three points”.
