Michael Santos: “I’m mentally and physically prepared”

New Blue and Whites’ player, Michael Santos is officially presented in front of the media in La Rosaleda’s press room. “I’m here to earn my place and help the team”, says the Uruguayan.

Santos, accompanied by Club advisers, Francisco Martín Aguilar, Antonio Benítez and Abdullah Ben Barek is described by sports director, Francesc Arnau: “He’s here for four years, and we hope he’ll adapt quickly.  He has a winning character and is aggressive on the pitch.  His style of play will adapt to Spain, and it’s just a matter of time before we see him at his best.”

(Prepared / Play) “I’m mentally and physically prepared, and very happy to come to Málaga.  I’m a striker who likes to play loose upfront, marking diagonals and being supportive. I’m hoping to establish myself in LaLiga, prepare well during the pre-season and help the team on the pitch.”

(Adapting / Rhythm) “I’ve spoken to my compatriots – Ricca and Chory – and they told me the rhythm of play is very different to that of Uruguay.  During the pre-season I’ll be able to get used to the style of play and pace here.  I feel comfortable on the wings and inside, as well as getting close to the goal to score.”

(National team / Málaga) “I’ve been part of Uruguay line-ups, this will help me to establish myself and gain opportunities with my national team.  I’ve followed Málaga a great deal, they are a team that always goes in search of goals and are committed.  The work in defence is very good, so I want to do my bit and score goals to get the team as high as possible.”

(Pre-season / Goals) “The first thing to do is have a good pre-season, earn my place and help the team.  If this means scoring lots of goals, they’ll be welcome.  I know what I can bring on and off the pitch, which is fundamental.  I don’t feel pressure, I’m here to work and adapt to the style of play and my teammates, and do my best to win a place and please everyone.”

(Europe / Physical condition) “It was a dream playing in the Libertadores, and it’d be great if we qualify to Europe.  I’ve been working hard physically in Uruguay, and as from tomorrow I’ll be training with a physical foundation.”
