Marcelo Romero: “We must keep working hard”

The Málaga CF coach states that his players “gave their all, tried hard and ran. It’s not about looking for small excuses, but focusing on the work we need to do, and finding where the mistakes are and rectifying them”.

Match analysis

“The rival dominated possession in the first half, but I think we created some danger. The team gave feeling to the game, particularly with the counter-attacks we had. After conceding a goal we became very disorganised, and things started to go wrong. When you experience a run of matches without victory, the players become nervous. They worked hard, ran a lot and gave everything on the field of play. We must keep working hard”.

Finding the mistakes

“The team gave their all, tried hard and ran. The rival scored a goal from a free kick that was deflected off the wall. The second goal wasn’t in our favour, it wasn’t a corner. However, it’s not about looking for small excuses, but focusing on the work we need to do, and finding where the mistakes are and rectifying them”.

Sandro’s injury

“We’ve suffered a number of injuries since the start of the season. The doctor will need to determine the extent of Sandro’s injury. We’re all looking for what the injury point is, and trying not to surpass it. Sandro is a player who initiates a great deal, and plays to the limit. We’re losing a footballer who is at his best”.

The work of Mikel and Luis

“I’m happy with how Mikel and Luis are working. I think they played a good game. They’re young and started this year. They shouldn’t be held accountable. It’s a learning process. We must support them all we can. Mikel has played in previous matches and performed well, and Luis played well tonight”.

Debut of Peñaranda

“His physical fitness was a bit of a struggle. He had to go out without warming up, so it was tough for him to get into the match. He will adapt over various games. I think he showed his quality. The players must continue working hard and improving in other aspects”.
