Malaguistas in the Copa America and Euro Championships

A total of five footballers linked to Málaga CF complete an historic participation of Blue and Whites’ players, in two of the most prestigious football competitions.

The presence of Malaguista players in both the European Championships and Copa America is recent. In 2011, Salomón Rondón was the first to take part in one of these tournaments; the ‘Vinotinto’ striker was the only member of the Club to score a goal, in the draw against Paraguay (3-3) in the last group stage match.

In the Euro 2012, Santi Cazorla won the tournament with Spain, having competed in two matches in the most important European competition.

In the Copa America Centenario 2016, up to three Málaga CF players are in the same national team (Venezuela).  In the case of one of them, Mikel Villanueva, he is an Atlético Malagueño player.  Along with Ochoa (Mexico), four current members of the team are taking part in the South American tournament held in the US.  Cop (Croatia), called up to Euro 2016 in France, completes the historic number of Malaguistas in both competitions.
