Atlético Malagueño
Málaga’s reserve team defeats UD Maracena (0-2) and maintains joint first position

Salva Ballesta’s boys were victorious in today’s away match against UD Maracena, thanks to two goals from Ernesto Cornejo. Malagueño are still in joint first place in the group, along with Marbella FC, who defeated CD Loja by 3-1.

Atlético Malagueño again showed the keys to their success: a solid defence, having only conceded two goals in six games – in which Cristian replaced banned Álex Portillo – Rafa Vicente and Marrufo dominating play in midfield; controlling possession and the rhythm of the match; three strong players on the second line of attack – Juanpi, Samu Castillejo and Ernesto – who created numerous goal chances; and putting great pressure on the rival.

The Blue and Whites dominated the match from kick off, and thanks to the pressure put on the home side, Ernesto opened the scoring for Malagueño after nine minutes.  Labella being sent off just before half time as a result of a double yellow, only served to increase Malagueño’s superiority.  UD Maracena only had one clear shot at goal, which could well have led to an equaliser, but goalkeeper Toni won the battle against unmarked striker, Brazales.

The ‘Malaguistas’ really stepped up the attack in the second half, which led to several more chances to score.  It was Ernesto in the 64th minute that scored the second goal of the match, totalling three goals in his last two games, to seal the Blue and Whites’ victory.

Salva Ballesta again gave the younger players from La Academia a chance to play, this time midfielder Deco made his debut, joining the game in minute 80 in substitution of Ernesto.
