A stunning goal from Ramón in 87’ rescued a well-deserved point for Málaga CF in the first match of 2022 at Martiricos, against Real Sporting de Gijón.

Brandon’s number five
In minute 30 of play, the Mallorca-born forward took the match level at 1-1 with a goal from the penalty spot following a foul on Escassi. The fifth goal of the competition, the third penalty, for Brandon who is the sole Malaguista ‘pichichi’. In the League, the number ‘9’ has made 15 shots at goal, with a success rate of 33.3% in terms of this stat.
Ramonazo!
The full-time whistle was approaching when Ramón Enríquez appeared to score the definitive 2-2. His monumental shot from outside the area went to the back of Mariño’s net, bringing the stadium to its feet. His first goal at La Rosaleda, at the height of the first he scored as a professional last year in Castellón, a la Modric from the left profile of the attack.
Good performance by Febas and Vadillo
Double debut for the two latest winter signings with both performing at a more than acceptable level. Febas played the entire second half, showing his quality in midfield. Technical, intense without the ball and bringing fluidity to the game. Vadillo entered in the 73rd minute of play, also showing sparks of talent. With more rhythm, they’ll boost the quality of the team.
Middle of the table
After 23 matches in the competition, Málaga CF are in the middle of the standings with 31 points in 11th place. Closer to the Top 6 marking the promotion playoff positions, six points from Girona FC, with a +10-point advantage over the team ranked fourth from bottom, SD Amorebieta (21 points). With no competition this coming weekend, the following weekend the action returns to La Rosaleda against Paco Jémez’s renewed Ibiza, with the same number of points as MCF (31 points, 10th place).
