Málaga Femenino lose in first round Cup clash (0-1)

The Blue and Whites were defeated by Granada CF in this first round, single match in the Copa de la Reina 22/23. A goal from Ramos in 77’ led the visitors to victory.

There was a good crowd at the Francisco Romero ground in Rincón de la Victoria on Wednesday evening.

Nacho made various changes to the starting-11 in regard to last Sunday’s league line-up. The 11 players included: Andrea; Encarni, Águeda, Ruth ©, Yoli; Carla, Félicité, María Cortés, Marilén; Bertuchi and Carmen Gómez. Homegrown Águeda and French player, Félicité made their official debut wearing the Malaguista jersey.

The first half was even between both sides. Despite not making any clear approaches to the area, MCFF didn’t suffer in defence either. With no opportunities generated in either area, the scoreboard remained at 0-0 at half-time.

As play resumed, Torralvo replaced Carmen upfront. Around 15 minutes into the second half (61’), Cadete Carla and Félicité made way for Olmedo and Nazaret. It was precisely the midfielder from the Canary Islands who had the best chance for the Blue and Whites, hitting the crossbar in 74’.

Then, as happens in football, immediately afterwards Granada took advantage of their best scoring opportunity. Ramos beat Andrea to open the scoring and tip the balance in the visitors’ favour (0-1, 77’). In the 80th minute, Silvia Mérida replaced Bertuchi, and in that minute Torralvo narrowly missed out on an equaliser with a header that was cleared by the rival goalkeeper.

Nacho made his final substitution, bringing on homegrown player Cristi for Marilén (85’). However, the scoreboard remained the same for the remainder of play, with Granada claiming a 0-1 victory.

Málaga CF’s time in the Copa de la Reina has come to an end, so the girls will now focus on the main objective this season, fighting for promotion to the Primera Federación.
