Guatemalan spark for the team with Monterroso

María Monterroso joins Málaga CF Femenino for 22/23, an international striker from Guatemala who arrives from CD Badajoz Femenino.

María Amanda Monterroso Asteguieta (Guatemala, 30/11/1993) is a powerful attacker, at 1.75 metres in height.

At 28 years old, she has a lengthy career behind her. She arrived from Badajoz, who ended in second place last season behind MCFF in Group 4 of Primera Nacional. A year earlier (20/21) she played for Friol in the Reto Iberdrola.

Her best goalscoring campaign in Spain was in 19/20, when she scored 11 goals in 16 games in Primera Nacional with Extremadura UD.

Monterroso trained in the United States (2011-16) accumulating numerous collective and individual achievements in her time at university. In 2017 she played for Colombia’s Alianza Petrolera and in 2018 she won the Guatemalan Women's Liga Mayor, scoring 17 goals that year.

On an international level, she is the captain of the Guatemalan national team and has participated in World Cup and pre-Olympic qualifiers. She was also a regular in her country's U-20 and U-17 youth teams.

The arrival of Monterroso increases the healthy competition upfront within the squad along with Torralvo, Carmen Gómez, Bertuchi and Futu.

Welcome to Málaga María and here’s to many more goals!
