Málaga CF ‘Juvenil’ boys begin their Copa del Rey journey

The youth academy team will face CF Damm for the first leg knockout stage Copa del Rey Juvenil match, taking place at the ‘Federación Malagueña’ ground on Sunday at 12 p.m.

Manel Ruano’s boys are hoping to end the season with a successful cup competition and put the Copa de Campeones behind them, in which they were knocked out in the quarter-finals by Rayo Vallecano (0-1) despite dominating play.

The rival, CF Damm is committed to training players, despite not having a senior team, and qualified for this competition in Group 3 second place with 64 points, 10 behind the champions RCD Espanyol, and eight ahead of FC Barcelona who finished in fourth place behind RCD Mallorca.

La Academia knows the rival club well, as both Manel Casanova and Manel Ruano played for CF Damm in their youth.  Casanova scored 200 goals within the four and a half years he was with the Catalán-based club, when they were proclaimed Champions of Cataluña and runners-up in the Copa de SE El Generalísimo in 1966/67.  Ruano was with CF Damm for three seasons, before the ‘División de Honor Juvenil’ category was divided into groups.

Tickets for this match, which can be purchased from the ‘Federación Malagueña’ ground, are priced at one euro for Málaga CF members, and five euros for the general public.
