Málaga CF competing in His Majesty’s ‘El Rey-74’ Winter Regatta
The Blue and Whites Club and Real Club de Campo are taking part in the regatta organised by Real Club Mediterráneo this weekend, to mark their association under the slogan #unidosporeldeporte (#unitedthroughsport)
For the second consecutive year, Málaga CF and Real Club de Campo swap the football and golf ball for the sail, as they take part in Spain’s oldest sailing regatta on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th April, organised by Real Club Mediterráneo. His Majesty’s ‘El Rey-74’ Winter Regatta in the international sailing Snipe class, is taking place in the Bay of Málaga this weekend, with over 30 crews involved from Madrid, Cádiz, Granada, Almería, Melilla, Murcia and Málaga, as well as two separate vessels flying the flags of Denmark and Norway.
Also, this year the competition is the Andalucían Championships and simultaneously, the Martín WiznerMemorial is taking place, and the Diario Sur Cup for the same class of light sailing, organised by the Málaga-based Club with the Andalucían Sailing Federation, by delegation of the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Sport of the Junta de Andalucía.
This is the second time that the football and golf clubs have competed in this nautical event, as a result of the association of the three Málaga-based clubs, who have undertaken a series of joint actions under the slogan #unidosporeldeporte (#unitedthroughsport). In the last event, it was a hard-fought race, with Málaga CF coming in second place and Club de Campo as the Masters champion.
For this year, the Martiricos skipper will be José María Guerrero, the defending champion, with Alejandro Fernández as crew. Guerrero has been European champion and Spain youth champion, and has the real measure of this competition, which he’s won over the past two years. The organisation of this regatta has been made possible thanks to the sponsorship of Málaga City Hall, Ministry of Development, Málaga Port, Unicaja, Diario Sur, Mercedes Benz IbericarBenet, Spanish Red Cross, Accastillage Diffusion, Muelle Uno and Navarro Hermanos.
