Málaga CF wished to accompany San Miguel, one of the Club’s main sponsors, at this new event, organised to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the well-known beer brand.  Taking place at Muelle 1, Málaga Port over the next few days is the first FoodExplorers GastroMálaga.  An opportunity to enjoy some of the best tapas accompanied by a San Miguel beer.

Since last Thursday and until Sunday 19th June (from 12 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. until midnight), guests at Muelle 1 can enjoy the gastronomy of the city’s best restaurants for a reasonable price.  Club adviser, Abdallah Ben Barek and Sebastián Fernández Reyes ‘Basti’, representing the MCF Foundation’s Social Department, attended the inauguration of FoodExplorers GastroMálaga on Thursday.

Michellin-starred chef, José Carlos García, San Miguel’s gastronomic ambassador, kicked off the event, sponsored by the beer brand.  There are a total of 12 stands from different Málaga restaurants.

During Friday’s event, representatives from Málaga CF and CB Unicaja had a pint pulling contest.  Basti; Lucas Rodríguez, Málaga CF Foundation’s coordinator and José María Arrabal, the Club’s business development director competed with CB Unicaja’s sports director, Carlos Jiménez; and first team players, Alberto Díaz and Viny Okouo to see who could pull the best pint.  The competition ended in a technical draw.

In addition, the prestigious ‘Michellin Guide’ gifted various Bib Gourmand Andalucía 2016s to some 30 chefs from various Andalucían restaurants, in recognition of their work and prestige.

Statements to MCFTV

Sebastián Fernández Reyes 'Basti', member of MCF Foundation’s Social Department: “The place is amazing, with spectacular views.  It’s an honour to be here celebrating the 50th anniversary of San Miguel.  We’re very proud that San Miguel has always supported Málaga CF.  I welcome all Malagueños to come here and enjoy a beer and a tapa, I’m sure they’ll have a great time.  We had a contest between Málaga and Unicaja to see who could pull the best pint, and of course we won.”

Jaime Valdés, Plan Málaga director of San Miguel: “FoodExplorers GastroMálaga is a gastronomic event.  We want to showcase the best of Málaga hospitality.  We can find the best tapas, more casual dining, with links to different parts of the world.  There are 12 culinary offerings seasoned with touches from other countries.  Each one is perfect with a different beer for each restaurant.”

José Caros García, Michellin-starred chef: “We are 12 colleagues who have restaurants, and we’re aiming to bring the best from each of us.  Everyone who visits the fair will have the chance to try the 12 best creations from our city.  We’ve made every effort to bring the best, at attractive prices.  Without doubt, the most important thing is to spend time with friends and enjoy a beer in a beautiful setting such as Muelle 1 in Málaga Port.  If we tour around the entire fair, it’s as if we’re in a high-end restaurant enjoying a tapas tasting menu.  There’s a wonderful variety for everyone.”

Juan Pozuelo, chef: “Thanks to San Miguel, the Malagueños, the Andalucíans and all the tourists who visit our city will be able to travel to anywhere in the world, by simply visiting these stands and enjoying a tapa with a touch of spice from other countries.”
