The Malaguistas end their Copa America journey

The four Blue and Whites’ players in the Copa America Centenario in the USA; Venezuela’s Rosales, Juanpi and Mikel, and Mexico’s Ochoa, were knocked out of the tournament in the quarter-finals last night.

Venezuela lost out to Argentina by 4-1 at the Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts.  Roberto Rosales and Mikel Villanueva stayed on the substitutes’ bench, whilst Juanpi Añor played his first game of the competition, entering in minute 55 in the second half.  Argentina won with goals from Higuaín (2), Messi and Lamela, and former Malaguista, Rondón scored for the ‘Vintotino’ side.

Mexico lost 0-7 to Chile at the Levi’s Stadium in California.  Blue and Whites’ goalkeeper, ‘Memo’ Ochoa played his second match of the tournament in the starting-11, playing for 90 minutes.  The current American champions secured a big win with goals from Vargas (4), Puch (2) and Alexis Sánchez.

Cop, no debut in Euro 2016

Croatian-born striker, Duje Cop, on loan until 30th June, hasn’t taken part in any of Croatia’s Group D matches in the first phase of the Euro 2016 underway in France.  He wasn’t called-up for the match against Turkey due to suspension (0-1, Modric), and was a substitute against the Czech Republic (2-2).  His next chance to debut will be against Spain on Tuesday 21st June (9 p.m.)
