Luis Hernández: “We’re focused on competing”

The Malaguista defender attended to the media in a press conference: “The team trusts in doing things well”.

The team is focused on the sport factor

“We try to focus solely on the sport aspect, as that is what concerns us as a group, and concentrate on our responsibility which is to compete every weekend”.

An important match

“It’s a fundamental match for us. Particularly having not enjoyed a win so far this season. We know we are faced with a very difficult rival, and although they’ve had three or four games without a win, they are a tough team in this category, with experienced players, so I’m certain it’ll be a hard-fought game. We’re working hard to correct where we’ve been going wrong and what the team has been lacking over the past weeks and, obviously, the team trusts in doing things well and if we’re at our level we can win the three points and finally dedicate them to those who have been suffering so much these months”.

Sporting, a difficult rival

“They have maintained the block, and in addition, they’ve reinforced well with experienced players. It’s going to be a hard match, there are players who have been in the category for several years and they have the same coach as last season. Perhaps their numbers are similar to ours, but this is a team that will be in the top part of the table, certainly among the top eight, so it’s going to be tough”.

Balance between attack and defence

“Obviously, when we have five matches without a win, I don’t think the problem is just down to one situation. We need to find the balance between trying not to concede goals and making the most of the opportunities we generate. The other day, one of the few mistakes the team had in defence led to the rival scoring a goal. As such, due to this negative situation, we’re working hard to minimise or eradicate these mistakes. The other day I believe the team had opportunities to score a goal and we’re working on improving not just that aspect, in attack and defence, but generally”.

Personal situation

“Nobody likes to miss the pre-season, but the more minutes I play the more pace I’m gaining. Now I’m trying my best to work to the max during the week to return to my optimum level, which isn’t far away”.

The team adapts to all systems

“The team is responding well to all the tactical approaches the coach makes. We train during the week to carry them out and we all want to see them reflected on the pitch”.

New players adapting

“They’ve been with us for two months now. They have incorporated very well and adapted quickly. We are a group that allows new players to adapt rapidly. I’m sure that with minutes and adapting to the new way of seeing the football we have here, they’ll contribute a great deal”.
