Loving our own

One of the most beautiful feelings that can be experienced is the affection for what represents us. What belongs to us and what we belong to. Our own.

Calle Larios is one of the most admired streets in the world. At 350 metres in length, it majestically forms the epicentre of the city to the admiration of visitors and locals. Every year it brings together countless people for the Feria, Easter and Christmas celebrations. Witness to innumerable first dates, her beauty only increases with the passage of time. Prestigious international brands are on display in shops along the street. A beautiful home for Malagueños and Malagueñas.

Easter week in Málaga is one of the most important religious and cultural events in the world. The thrones are considered supreme works of art and the characteristic processions are an unequivocal hallmark. The dominating structuresare moved with millimetre precision by the carriers, combining effort, passion and love. The swaying of their steps, rhythmic and in time with the music, represent Jesus and the Virgin Mary in a staging that is as beautiful as it is unique.

The people of Málaga have been grilling fish for two centuries with one of the most unique and effective techniques known as the ‘espeto’. Despite its simplicity, the correct preparation isn’t at all straightforward. The preparation, the salt, the cooking technique, all determine a good ‘espeto’. Once on the plate, the flavour is unmistakable. The crunch of the first bite precedes the exquisite roast point, the perfect combination. A flavour and smell as unmistakable as it is appetising that have become part of our unique heritage.

This land has many more treasures, so many that it would be impossible to list them all. It’s hard to find a Malagueño who isn’t proud of them. You couldn’t imagine a Malagueño openly criticising them. It’s logical, loving our own is one of the most beautiful feelings. That’s Malaguismo.

Loving our own is one of the most beautiful feelings. Not appreciating it is not a crime, nor a sin, nor is it even reprehensible. To not feel it is simply a pity.
