As is tradition each year, the Málaga supporters’ group presented the award winner with his weight in litres of olive oil as part of the 18th edition of the Peña’s annual award. Funes will share the liquid ‘gold’ with the entire squad, featuring Antequera Designation of Origin – DCOOP extra virgin olive oil.
A Club delegation led by Protocol and Institutional Relations adviser, Francisco Martín Aguilar, and board consultant Antonio López, accompanied the Loja-born coach at the ceremony. Miguel Molina, president of the Federación de Peñas Malaguistas was also in attendance, alongside Archidona mayor Juan Manuel Almohalla. David Córdoba, president of the Peña Malaguista de Archidona, acted as master of ceremonies.
2026 has been Juanfran Funes’ year. His impact and leadership at the helm of the first team, capped by Málaga CF’s return to the top flight after eight years, have made him one of the most beloved figures among the Málaga faithful.
The Malaguista coach received numerous displays of affection from the Archidona supporters gathered at the Peña’s headquarters in the beautiful Málaga town, on a memorable occasion for both Funes and his family.
