Lombán: “I’ve been at this club the longest, it’s a privilege”
The Blue and White captain held a press conference at the ‘Juan Cortés’ press room at La Rosaleda: “When you win the first match in a week of three, you have peace of mind to face the next one.”
David Lombán appeared before the media at La Rosaleda today. The defender was questioned about Sunday’s match against Real Oviedo and the importance of winning three points in the three games coming up over seven days: “Whenever we have a match we focus on the idea of winning, regardless of the rival. LaLiga is a great competition and there’s a very small points margin between the teams at the top and those at the bottom. So, during weeks with three games, you can make a leap forward or a jump down. First up is Real Oviedo. This will be a very difficult match as they’ve just enjoyed an away win and have a good dynamic at home. When you win the first match in a week of three, you have peace of mind to face the next one.”
Lombán is from Avilés and, in addition, was part of Real Oviedo. As such, this match is going to be an important one for him on a personal level: “I’ve been away from home for 16 or 17 years. I’ve been to Gijón and Oviedo many times and it’s always special. Also, Oviedo is my former team, I trained there, and I’ll always be grateful to them because they’ve been a fundamental part of my growth as a player and as a person. I hold great affection for them,” he said.
David has been part of the starting line-up in the last two league games. “I’m happy to maintain the line the team has been following. I think you always doubt yourself when you are in the 11 and haven’t been playing as much, that the line can be maintained and that the team achieves a positive result. When I wasn’t playing, I pushed myself, was very self-critical and did my best every day to be ready,” he added.
Lastly, he referred to his seniority in the dressing room, stating: “This is the team in which at a professional level I’ve been at the longest, it’s a privilege. I’m proud that it is in a club like this and in a city like this,” he concluded.
