After so long not being able to celebrate any event with the Peñas Malaguistas, yesterday afternoon was highly emotional. The Peña Malaguista de Archidona celebrated the 13th anniversary of the ‘Malaguista of the Year’ trophy. A very important recognition for the Blue and White players, who are chosen by the fans as the best of the season, awarded with a plaque and the player’s weight in oil.
Nobody wanted to miss out on this event. Mercedes Montero, mayoress of Archidona; Miguel Molina, president of the Federación de Peñas Malaguistas; and David Córdoba, president of the Peña Malaguista de Archidona were all in attendance, along with Francisco Martín Aguilar, Málaga CF adviser.
In the opening speeches, Malaguismo featured heavily. Words loaded with Memory, for the Malaguistas who are no longer with us; of Commitment, for the desire to see La Rosaleda back to full capacity; and of Faith, for the fans’ enthusiasm this season.
Subsequently, a video of Alberto's sports career was shown. His years at The Academy, his various spells with several teams in Spain and, finally, his return to what has always been and always will be his home. Such exciting images for everyone present.
The player was then weighed to calculate the amount of olive oil that, thanks to Archidona's S.C.A ‘La Purísima’, would be delivered at the end of the event. The presentation of the plaque marked the closing of the celebrations, which was presented by the player's father, Andrés Escassi.
There was still time for autographs and photos with the fans present before this emotional event came to an end. The Malaguista Family was back together again, on and off La Rosaleda’s pitch.
