Locals clinch last-minute victory (2-1)

Málaga CF suffered a minimal defeat on their visit to CD Numancia in the first leg of the round of 32 of the Copa del Rey. A superb goal by Recio, and two local goals in stoppage time from Nacho and Escassi, sealed the final result.

The Copa del Rey is a special tournament. It allows teams competing in different categories to reunite, and it was the turn of Numancia-Málaga this Tuesday evening. The Reds and Blue and Whites have had a special relationship for some time, which was very much evident before kick-off. This type of atmosphere is, undoubtedly, very important in football.

From a sporting aspect, both teams shared possession in the wide area of the pitch in the initial stages of play. Equality prevailed until Recio opened the scoring with an impressive goal. The captain executed a free kick from the left, launching the ball to the far post, which violently struck the wood to then find Munir’s net in front of stunned looks amongst the crowd at ‘Los Pajaritos’ (0-1, 21’).

Following the goal, Míchel’s team controlled the rhythm and pace of play. The result remained 0-1 at half-time.

At the start of the second half, the dynamic of the game stayed the same. The Blue and Whites marked the time of play, and although the locals had a number of approaches, the visitors dominated the ball.

However, in the final minutes of the match, a goal from Nacho in 93’ and another from Escassi in 94’ turned the result around and sealed the local victory (2-1).
