La Rosaleda celebrates International Women’s Day

Athletes from different sporting disciplines featured in the symbolic gesture, coming together in an embrace in the run-up to #MálagaRealZaragoza. La Rosaleda’s VIP box was also made up of women.

#MálagaRealZaragoza meant more than a football match, it was also the day when Blue and White fans honoured International Women’s Day. To mark this special occasion, the Club celebrated the female fans and reinforced the role of women in sport.

In the run-up to kick-off, seven sportswomen were part of the symbolic hug, in the centre of the pitch, as a gesture towards women and women’s sport. One of the Málaga CF Femenino captains, Cristina Postigo; together with Jennifer Sánchez, Málaga Genuine player; Alba Cano, racing driver and Spanish Resistance champion; María Torres, karate gold medallist in the last national championships; Esperanza López, Rincón Fertilidad handball player; Eva Alcaide, referee; and Gema García, Unicaja women’s basketball captain, all linked arms together, all wearing the kits of their different sports.

VIP box of women

La Rosaleda’s VIP box had a clear protagonist: women. All the aforementioned sportswomen as well as Carmen Herrera, Paralympic judo champion, enjoyed watching the match in the box today, together with a large number of women.

Mercedes García Paine, Málaga delegate of Education, Sport, Equality, Social Politics and Conciliation at the Junta de Andalucía; Salomé Hidalgo, Deputy of Attention to the Municipality at Málaga’s Provincial Government; Noelia Losada, councillor for Sports at Málaga City Hall; as well as female Guardia Civil officers, national and local policewomen, EMT drivers and female Civil Protection officers were all present in the box.
