Atlético Málaga didn’t manage to overcome Betis and Sporting Huelva and finished in third place in the final of the II women’s Copa de Andalucía. Atlético Malagueño defeated Guadix by 4-2 in a tense match to maintain the group top spot.

It wasn’t to be.  Atlético Málaga lost their two matches in the triangular final of the Andalucían championships.  Despite their good performance in Puente Genil, Manuel Hernández Navarrete’s girls lost by 0-1 against Betis and 2-0 to Sporting Huelva.  The latter took the title by defeating Betis 1-0 in the third match of the tournament.  The worst news of the day without doubt was Encarni’s knee injury.  The player fell badly during play and had to leave the stadium by ambulance.  She fortunately returned to Málaga with her teammates and is awaiting tests to determine the extent of the injury.  Despite the result, the ‘Malaguistas’ left a good image in Córdoba, and are now focused on the next Women’s Second Division Group 4 match.

Atlético Malagueño ended up defeating Guadix CF by 4-2 at the weekend.  The match got off to an equal start at the Federation ground.  Malagueño took the lead in minute 30’ thanks to Moreno, following a great personal display by Mula.  Despite conceding a goal, Guadix equalised before half-time.  The rival went on to take a 1-2 lead in minute 52’, and in minute 65’ were left a player down following a double yellow card.  With their advantage in numbers, Ruano’s boys overcame the opponent’s lead with a goal from Calero in minute 71’ and Mauri in minute 75’.  With tension at an all-time high, Guadix hardened their game and ended up losing another player in minute 79’ with a direct red card.  Luismi went on to seal the Blue and Whites’ 4-2 victory in minute 86’.  The boys therefore claimed the three points from this insane match to maintain leadership of Third Division Group 9, two points in front of Vélez, El Ejido and Loja.
